HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Montana Materials & Construction have completed work to rehabilitate Interstate 15 (I-15) in Helena. Work on the I-15 Helena North project began earlier this summer and took a single season to complete.

As part of this project, crews crack sealed six interstate bridges on north and southbound I-15 and applied a scrub seal to approximately 11 miles of I-15 from the South Helena Interchange (Exit 190) to the Lincoln Road Interchange (Exit 200). Several interchange ramps also received a scrub seal, and the entire project area received new pavement markings.

“This project took slightly longer than we originally anticipated due to waiting on permits and approvals,” said Craig Durkin, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “However, we managed to get everything completed in a single season like we originally intended. MDT and Montana Materials & Construction would like to thank the public for their patience during construction.”

The purpose of this project was to extend the service life of this section of roadway and the bridges and interchange ramps within its boundaries. The pavement was previously showing signs of deterioration, and the scrub seal was chosen to rejuvenate the existing asphalt and provide the pavement with a new layer of protection. The work done as part of this project will reduce the regular maintenance needed on this section of the highway in the future.
